What this site is for
EUexpat Free Movement is a practical guide that shows EU, EEA and Swiss citizens the order of admin steps for moving to Portugal. It covers the NIF, your address, the CRUE registration, social security, the health service, tax residency and the IFICI deadline.
The site has one page of guidance and one tool: a planner that turns your move date into a dated checklist.
Who it helps
People with an EU, EEA or Swiss passport who plan to live in Portugal: employees, freelancers, startup people, remote workers and retirees. If you need a visa, this site is not written for you.
Editorial approach
We lead with facts, dates and numbers, and we say plainly when something does not apply to you. Every page includes an honest downsides section. We do not publish testimonials, user counts or statistics we cannot source.
How facts are checked and dated
We check facts against official Portuguese sources first, such as the Portal das Finanças, ePortugal, gov.pt and the Diário da República, and list them in a Sources section on the page. Each page shows the date it was last reviewed. Rules change, so check the date before you rely on anything.
The planner uses fixed rules from the law (the three-month CRUE point, the 60-day tax notice and the 15 January IFICI deadline) plus typical timings for the other steps, which it labels as planning targets.
Commercial relationships
Some pages link to specialist services we have a commercial relationship with. We only link where we think the service genuinely helps.
